A well spend Easter holiday weekend - by Pali

48 hours at local water

I had my 14 year old daughter with me on a 48 hour carp session, were we camped out at a small pond 30 minute’ drive from where I live. With the weather forecast said night temps below freezing, so I had packed up well with warm sleeping bags and deer skins to cover my daughter’s bedchairs.

Maybe we did not catch anything, but we had a great time just the same. We both love the nature and spending time together, that’s what our weekend trips are all about. Normally at home, I spend a lot of time in front of the computer. My daughter loves reading, so she will have her face buried in a book and I can only say I’m happy about that. She spends more time reading then watching television!

Saturday just before noon we arrived at the pond, were I overtook a spot from a friend who had been there the previous few days. Got the bevy raised, bedchairs and everything in place, then baited up the rods and casted out. From there it was just relaxation, cozy chatting and cooking over fire. At night the temp dropped down to -5 C degrees, but not enough to lower the moral of the camp ;)

Next morning I got up, early as always and had an hour for myself looking out over the water. Then the carp anglers in the “neighbor” bevy’s started to get up too, there were two other anglers there for a 24 hour session. My daughter might be different than many other teens I know, in the way she cares to go fishing and camping in the weekends with her crazy fishing geek dad. But in other ways she’s like any other teen, which easy can sleep 12-16 hours if you don’t wake them up.

Around noon I had made brunch for us, scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon with toast. I don’t mind beans, but I’d rather just eat more bacon and sausages.

Easter Sunday passed a lot like the day before, with the only difference that the other anglers went home and of cause. Easter chocolate eggs, I had been hiding a large chocolate egg and some other treats from my daughter. She’s in the stage where she want to be an adult but still like the positive treats you get as a child, even tho she had not mentioned anything about chocolate eggs or Easter treats. I still got a priceless smile and a big hug after she got her treats, along with a thank you very much dad.

Monday morning we woke up to rain, not really the weather you want to be packing down camp in but what can you do about it? We decided to pack up early, get it done as fast as possible and go home to eat brunch. Rather than cooking it in the rain and still get wet packing down.
