The most common and readily available baits are particle baits. What is a particle bait? This category includes basically every seed, been, nut, pea etc. Examples are, but not limited to; Sweet corn, Feed corn/maize, garbonzo beans, peanuts, tiger nuts, maple peas, hemp seed, black-eyed peas, millet...The list is long. Maple peas and garbonzo/chick peas, sweet corn and Maize are some of the more widely used and successful particles. Hemp seed is great as well fished alongside other baits to get carp feeding.

A basic preparation guide is as follows:

Tiger Nuts Soak for 24 hours and boil for at least 30 mins.

Peanuts soak for 12 hours and boil for 30 mins

Sweet corn Use from the can or bag, keep in own juice.

Maize/Feed Corn soak for 24 hours and boil for at least 30 mins.

Chick Peas/Garbonzo beans soak for 12 hours boil for 30 mins.

Maple Peas soak for 12 hours boil for 30 mins.

Hemp soak for 12 hours and boil till split

Cooking times can vary and this is just a basic guide. Smaller particles like Millet and Hemp typically need only to be brought to a boil or boiled a short time where large and harder baits like Maize and maple pease may require much longer boiling times.

The thing about particle baits is they are not selective. Many other species may seek these out. Catching blue gills, catfish, even pickerel on Sweet corn or a maple pea is not uncommon.

The fun part about these baits is that you can use them as is, or modify them with various additives such as flavors and sweeteners. Strawberry sweet corn or molasses maize can have amazing results.
