Every year for a limited time cumurupim (tarpon) migrate past the village of Prainha do Canto Verde, NE Brazil. The artisanal fishermen use a very basic fishing technique to catch these large fish, a baited hook on a line and lots of skill. This short film shows the effort involved in taking their jangadas (a traditional sail craft) to sea and how they set up for fishing and hopefully catch a big fish. Cumurupim make up an important part of the income of these fishermen but they are by no means an easy catch, many boats take to the water, many return empty handed. All fish are weighed only after they have been gutted and de headed, as the men are only paid for saleable meat.
