Wellington provides some of the best fishing of any capital city in the world, on boat or off the shore there are a number of great spots with plenty of great sport and eating fish to be caught. The idea of this group is a place to post your catches,videos or pictures, ask questions, arrange trips,keep logs,meet people and generally enjoy creating something for wellington fishing and fishermen,fisherwoman online..to help people find fishing partners for fishing trips and to explore new fishing spots together. Also for travellers visiting Wellington , you can use this group to contact fisherman and woman in the area for a days fishing. If you’re a boatie offer up some gas money and hopefully you get a great days fishing in , just grab some bait from any BP petrol station (maybe a bag of pillie and a burley bomb) on the way as well, and your set. There really is some fantastic fishing in Wellington and out deep as well like Tuna , Big Kingfish , Snapper and Bluenose just to name a few.
Without question Oriental Bay Wall would be central Wellingtons most social fishing spot and you can always find a fisherman or ten down there. Fish caught here range from Kahawai, Kingfish, Gurnard, Snapper, Rig, Elephant Fish, Stingray, Skate, Spotty Sharks, Red Cod, Tarakihi, Conger eels and even some Blue cod at times. So many species make fishing here a very fun social fishing destination and apart from a pretty big weedline it is pretty kid friendly with a range of bait fish at high tide that kids can enjoy catching like herrings and with a tiny hook and piece of bread even piper in the summer months. However if you are keen to explore then there are plenty of spots around wellington that produce some fantastic fishing and that’s the reason for this fishing group, so we can enjoy some of these spots together and update each other on the action.
Some other fishing spots around Wellington include Castle Point, White Rock, Lake Ferry, Long beach, Wainuiomata Beach, Point Howard, Miramar Wharf, Seatoun Beach, Lyall Bay Break Water, Boom Rock, Makara Beach and there are plenty more! Even some that are secret spot x material ;) that we venture out to on those good tide,moon and wind weather fishing weekends.

A great way to cook these little ones is just gut them leave the scales and everything cut the tail or chop of the head to get it into a good sized old pan , layer the bottom with salt and ten mintues each side , Your basically BBQing the fish when its done get a shapre knife just silde it down and cut the skin along the back bone then the skin will just peel of and you are left with just amazingly juice white yummy snapper flesh the you can scrape of the bone like you would a Flounder
