When bites are at a premium at this time of year, we wanted to know if there were extra tips and tricks you could employ to make the most of your sessions. We know our commercial fisheries hold plenty of fish but getting them to feed can be a very difficult prospect at times.
Grant is one of the very best at maximising any chances he gets to catch. His big list of achievements tell us so. We asked him why things get so hard at this time of year and can he help us put more fish in our nets?
'Winter can be tough at the best of times. The key to catching at these times is to stay positive but think about your feeding very carefully. When I say positive, I always think I will get a few bites and that I am never far away from fish. If you believe there is fish in your peg, chances are you will get bites. If you think you're not going to catch then you probably won't!'
Regarding feeding, I always think about food content and how much I am putting in the peg. Pellets are great winter bait but they are a high food value item and need to fed very sparingly. I like to feed small nuggets of groundbait as this gives me maximum attraction with a lot less food value.'
